I’ve known the Farquharson’s for more years than I care to count. Let’s say simply that they were our neighbors when I had still more fingers than years on this earth. I wen to school with the kids, visited their house on occasion, and my mother and Leah keep up with each other on a pretty regular basis, even though us kids have all drifted on with our own lives. It was nice to get together just before Christmas to take their portraits down at City Hall.
Anyone paying close attention to the actual photography might notice that it is perhaps a little departure for me stylistically – more posed and “traditional” than I usually do. Part of this is due to the environment we had – City Hall is beautiful, the light is terrific, but it is a little dark at times so I brought some of the big flash equipment with me to make sure everything was as controlled as it could be. Part of it is what the client asks for. A lot of posed group shots lends itself to more careful lighting and a different way of interacting with subjects. It was a stretch from my usual, but a good one, one I’m happy to have done, and I’m more than happy with the results.
Of course, it’s easy when you put a good-looking family in front of your lens. Thanks, Farquharsons!
